Most banks also charge a wire fee …. for either incoming or out going. Banks also charge the end receiver for those banking on-line features as well as the bank customer for using it …. transfer of money thru Federal Reserve is not free ….For a brokerage … it's a hefty money loosing proposition. Then there is the accounting … deposits made with on-line direct deposit or wire transfers are hard to directly link to a specific Name or person, so from a lender accountability tracking or from State REB regulation of tracking … it gets a little more difficult to prove things to the state., and sometimes banks lump wire transfers together from the same senders routing #s …… We tried taking pay pal … gmail and CC payments this summer for weekly rentals and the fees wiped out our profits …. so we had to add the service fee 2.9-3.1% of the weekly rental fee back to the renters …. they didn't like it …. that's $78 on a $2600 charge. (our management fee was only $325 … so that's 25% of our commission) For our brokerage … checks are far less expensive and the bookkeeping is better …. we have a check scanner in the office and scan the checks for deposit, so we don't have to run to the bank … we can deposit 24/7 and the cost is pennies …. instead of 2.9-3.1% ….. Are we going to run into the same issues as we do with esignatures where some will take it an others won't? Perhaps if NAR could put together an "accepted protocol" for a paperless transaction; one which would be an accepted format amongst all Brokers and lenders, we could avoid some of the problems we have now.
